Recommended Encoder

Despite what you said in your comment, HotshotGG, remember that this is Hydrogenaudio Knowledgebase, so the recommended encoder should be what the HA folks recommend, i.e. aoTuV R1. Even though aoTuV R1 is not part of the mainline.

I cannot recommend Xiph 1.1.2 with a clear conscience as deep within I *know* that 1.1.2 is inferior to R1.

That's a point well taken. It still should be mentioned however. HotshotGG 16:53 3 October 2005 (CDT)

Legal Brouhaha

I don't see any purpose rehashing this whole legal thing again. If peoeple are interested in the discussion they should just read the thread. HotshotGG 17 June 2005 (EST)

Well, I lifted that text directly from Wikipedia, and I thought it to be very interesting, as it clarifies the situation while doing caveats that everything could be just FUD from the competitors. rjamorim 00:55, 19 Jun 2005 (CDT)
Yeah that's true, I understand were you are coming from. Wikipedia just has it their reguarding the liscense and the whole issues is up in the air. 00:12, HotshotGG 20 Jun 2005 (EST)
Also, I believe just a small paragraph summarizing the whole bruhaha is much better that telling the article readers "read and understand these 15 pages of messily organized and barely chronological forum posts". But that's just me. :B rjamorim 10:58, 20 Jun 2005 (CDT)
I am overdueing it a little with this page. I just want to be as specific as possible though for anyone who visits it ;-d. Maybe we should add the xiph logo to as well? hmm, also technical Vorbis doesn't use a straight MDCT it uses a FFT to do some tone masking ;-O (that's really irrlevant though). The specs won't tell the user too much about encoding, therefore I'm trying to fill in some technical gaps here. HotshotGG 2:30, 23 June 2005 (EST)

Ogg Vorbis or Ogg + Vorbis

As Ogg is the container format and Vorbis the codec, wouldn't it be more accurate to have a Vorbis and an Ogg page, along with this one being a redirection or a placeholder page that contains links to the two formers? Nowhere man 13:34, 21 Sep 2005 (CDT)

That's not a bad idea. I don't the situation is as bad wikipedia though. Most people who visit this wiki know Vorbis is Vorbis. HotshotGG 20:29, 26 May 2006 (CDT)

POSIX

Where is the download link for VorbisGain/POSIX? Rarewares I think only host the Win32 binaries. --pepoluan 13:19, 23 May 2006 (CDT)

It does exist I think Garf has a POSIX compile of VorbisGain on his website. Roberto is very stingy when it comes to hosting POSIX binaries on Rarewares. If I had the source I could try and compile it myself, I don't have access to Linux right now, but I will get around to it eventually. It would be great it we could find someone to create an OS/X compile for MAC too. --HotshotGG 20:26, 26 May 2006 (CDT)
Well then I think the links should be split into two, kinda like this:
VorbisGain ( Win32 / POSIX ) to apply ...
or
VorbisGain to apply ... (Win32; POSIX here)
Whaddyouthink? --pepoluan 03:07, 27 May 2006 (CDT)
If the application or source is not in the same place that might be a good idea. --HotshotGG 21:19, 24 May 2006 (CDT)
With Andavari's script, I've decomposed the VorbisGain bullet item as indicated. --pepoluan 01:54, 28 May 2006 (CDT)

Page Discussion

I think the section title should be Supporting DAPs instead of Supported DAPs. I mean, the DAPs support Vorbis, right? Not the other way around. Bleh, English grammar makes my head spin  --pepoluan 01:54, 28 May 2006 (CDT)

Wait, Ogg Vorbis is codec, right? Why use Software Infobox? --pepoluan (talk | contribs) 11:22, 25 September 2006 (CDT)

Beats me.... To me this page is the same as the MP3 page. Shouldn't be related to any specific software, only with the format. For software we should have separate pages the same way we have for LAME, Xing, Blade etc. --Beto (talk | contribs) 12:54, 25 September 2006 (CDT)
Sooooo... no one objects to me reverting to pre-Infobox version? --pepoluan (talk | contribs) 13:23, 25 September 2006 (CDT)
