Windows Media Video (WMV) is the video codec developed by Microsoft for their Windows Media multimedia codec portfolio.

Several versions exist. The most recent, WMV9, has been proposed by Microsoft to become an open standard to be featured in next generation optical media storage (Blu-ray and HD-DVD)
