MPEG-1 Audio Layer III HD, more commonly known and advertised by its abbreviation mp3HD, is a legacy audio codec developed by Technicolor (formerly known as Thomson).[1] It is a lossless/lossy hybrid extension of the MP3 format, containing an ordinary mp3 stream and then an ID3 block to store correction data for lossless playback in an mp3HD-aware player. [2][3][4]
mp3HD was offered as freeware encoder/decoder, player, Winamp plugin DirectShow filter downloadable from its website[5], which were abandoned some time around April 2013. At the time, it supported 16-bit PCM at 44.1 kHz (CD audio) and 48 kHz.[6]
