The ASIO bashing assumes consumer-grade hardware. If your DAC has an ASIO driver provided by the manufacturer, USE IT. If your device does not come with a stable ASIO driver, WASPAPI in Exclusive mode is the best option on Windows machines.
I am using two DACs and Wasapi output. With the Toslink connection everything works as I would expect, and Vista's mixer is without function.
But via USB -in event mode- the Vista volume setting is still active.
Why?
(Vista is set to exclusive mode in both cases).
